Editors, We are Scientists, The Cinematics, Cambridge Junction, October 2005

My Camera decided to pack up on me at this gig so no photos - grrrrrr! Caught the last two tracks from The Cinematics and they sounded promising. Solid, tight guitars and all that. Have heard great things about We Are Scientists and I'm pleased to say I wasn't disappointed. They managed to mix poppy vocals with angular/spikey guitar sounds well. Lots of their songs start off sounding like one thing and then morph halfway through into another - then they go back again! All very interesting. Comes across great live but not sure how it will sound recorded. Editors were on fighting form. They seem to be able to adapt their sound to suit the size of the venue and it was amazing to hear them fill the Junction with a cacophony of sound. Trouser flapping bass, ear splitting guitars, smooth vocals and militaristic drums - perfect! They make it all seem so easy too.
