The Evens @ The Portland Arms, March 2006

Anyone who remembers and loved Fugazi would instantly recognise Ian MacKaye - one half of Washington's The Evens. Last night he and Amy Farina created some beautiful and angsty tunes on their guitar and drums respectively. They shared the singing role but most importantly, they connected with their audience and created an intimate and friendly night. Sing-a-longs were encouraged, as were heckling and dancing. The entire audience was in awe and adulation and it was quite something to behold. I got caught up in the moment and bought the CD direct from Ian's sweaty paws - I'm looking forward to listening to it time and time again in an effort to relive the night.
